Sandwich panel weight calculator: kg/m² and panel mass

Calculate sandwich panel weight per m² and per panel from the skins and core. Add extras separately and check which inputs are missing before requesting a quote.

Sandwich panel weight calculator: kg/m² and panel mass
AI-generated material illustration. Not a tested product configuration or a completed Banarta project.

Sandwich panel weight per m² is the sum of the mass per m² of both facings, the core and any additional layers. For each uniform layer, multiply thickness in metres by density in kg/m³; multiply the total kg/m² by panel area to estimate panel mass. Core thickness alone cannot determine the finished weight.

Use the sandwich panel weight calculator to enter your own layer data, add adhesive, fittings and packaging separately, and see which inputs are still missing. The worked example below uses hypothetical values; request the confirmed mass of your actual construction before ordering.

The basic calculation

For each uniform layer, mass per square metre equals thickness in metres multiplied by density in kg/m³. Add the layer results to obtain an estimated kg/m² figure, then multiply by panel area. If a supplier already gives an accurate facing mass in kg/m², use that directly instead of deriving it from an assumed density.

Hypothetical layerExample inputCalculated mass
Skin A1.0 mm × 1,400 kg/m³1.40 kg/m²
XPS core28 mm × 35 kg/m³0.98 kg/m²
Skin B1.0 mm × 1,400 kg/m³1.40 kg/m²
SubtotalThree layers only3.78 kg/m²

For an example 2.4 m × 1.2 m panel, area is 2.88 m² and the three-layer subtotal is 10.89 kg. Adhesive, finish and additional components are still excluded. All inputs are hypothetical, not Banarta specifications, and the 30 mm layer sum does not account for adhesive thickness.

BUYER TOOL

Build your panel weight budget

Enter each face and the core separately. See the mass you can account for, and the items still missing.

The interactive budget appears when the tool loads. If it does not appear, use the basic calculation and worked example above.

A mass budget is not a measured product weight, load rating, lifting plan or freight quotation. Confirm the exact supplied construction and actual pack information. Inputs stay in this page; this tool does not send or save them.

Need the weight of your actual panel?

Send the panel dimensions, core and facing details, quantity and destination. Ask us to confirm kg/m², kg per panel and packing weight for the configuration you want quoted.

List the exclusions instead of hiding them

  • Adhesive or bonding-film mass.
  • Protective films, coatings or textured surface treatments.
  • Local inserts, reinforcement and edge profiles.
  • Machined openings and the components installed into them.
  • Packaging, pallets and transport protection.

For a cut-out, subtract removed material only when the construction and opening area are known. Add any frame or reinforcement separately. A supplier's kg/m² figure for a plain sheet should not be applied unchanged to a fabricated component containing hardware.

Keep weight and strength as separate decisions

A lighter panel is not necessarily suitable for a longer span or a higher load. Bending, bond performance and fixing resistance depend on the complete construction and support conditions. Use the calculated mass for planning; require appropriate evidence for structural or service-performance decisions.

Similarly, changing one skin to reduce weight may affect finish, fabrication and joining. Record the revised skin construction and ask for an updated panel specification. Do not accept a weight-saving substitution solely because its overall thickness remains unchanged.

Reconcile sample, panel and shipping weights

Ask whether the quoted weight is nominal, measured or subject to a stated tolerance. A small sample may not contain the inserts and edge details of the delivered panel. Confirm dimensions and included components when comparing a measured sample to an estimate.

For freight and handling, request net panel weight, quantity per pack, packaging weight and gross pack dimensions. Lifting arrangements must use the relevant handling instructions and actual component or pack information; this arithmetic is not a lifting design.

Send the construction with your enquiry

Explore Banarta XPS core sandwich panels. The core and facing specification guide helps define the layers. Send both skin requirements, core thickness and finished dimensions, and ask for confirmed mass for that construction.

Scope

This is a mass-budget method and an original hypothetical calculation. It does not establish a Banarta product weight, load rating or transport allowance. Supplier drawings and measured or declared values for the chosen configuration take precedence over the example.
